Our family firm began in 2013 after Robert was commissioned to create an ornamental steel feature for bird feeders. He originated the tree's unique design, people loved it and now Dorset Bird Trees are flourishing all over the UK.
The trees are not only practical and popular as feeders, they are also sculptures, providing an artistic focal point to any garden, patio or outdoor space.
Robert has been welding for over 40 years. He studied at Yeovil College for four years, honing his skills while learning processes and materials. He went on to complete courses in blacksmithing at Kingston Maurward College, Dorchester and further broaden his knowledge.
All the trees are hand crafted in Robert's workshop near Beaminster, West Dorset, the village immortalised as Emminster in Thomas Hardy's Tess of the d'Ubervilles.
